The last time I went to St Michael’s Mount was circa 1986, which is a poor state of affairs when you actually live in the same bay. The trouble with living locally, I suppose, is that there is always tomorrow…
Most locals think of St Michael’s Mount as a Big Day Out with admission fees etc – something to save for best – which of course it can be if you’re doing the castle and gardens. But actually you can perfectly well nip over for a potter around the dear little harbour, or casual lunch at the airy Sail Loft restaurant.
Check times for low tide to walk across the causeway – which makes for an awesomely atmospheric arrival (though I managed to cadge a lift with the harbourmaster – tiny vid below).
