I have been woefully lacking in blog material recently due to six crushingly dull weeks on crutches – and I didn’t think micro-analysis of the Tash-Summer storyline on Neighbours would pass muster.
Anyway, I am now in possession of a perfectly healed greater trochanter (hello world!), which called for a celebration: a mid-week outing to the King’s Arms in St Just for midday pints of Tribute, and a steak and ale pie.
The old granite-fronted pub, on the square in St Just, has won a plethora of awards since new owners Brad and Molly took it over a year ago. We found a warm welcome, spick and span bar, and some pretty exceptional pie (£9.95, served with parmesan mushy peas and mustard mash), so I think I’ll award it the much coveted p&c nice-pie-and-a-pint-next-to-an-open-fire award.

I’ve just got back from a week in St Just, and this time yesterday evening I was in that very same pub eating their steak and ale pie. I think that qualifies me to second your decision to award the Kings Arms the nice-pie-and-a-pint-next-to-an-open-fire award.
Their chef, Lyndon, has perfect the perfect suet crust, which when soaked in gravy is, I swear, both evidence for and activator of the elusive ‘sixth taste’. Imagine my joy when my other half couldn’t finish hers. Well, I couldn’t leave these things going to waste, could I?

Parmesan mushy peas!!!??? Boy I must make a return to St Just for that one and maybe sneak in a few paintings while I’m at it!
